Caught a package of articles in Facilitynet on conducting a facility security audit; it also touches on liability protection. Good article; I won't summarize it here.
A couple of things we offer our janitorial clients are monitoring exterior security (and safety) lighting (after all, we tend to see the place in the dark, when the lights are on), and periodically checking the battery on the "Exit" sign over the front door. It also stresses the big hole one has in one's security procedures should one of your folks (or the janitor) give out his door card, or alarm code, to someone. We're pretty aggressive about policing that, among our folks.
But read the articles. Lots of things you can do, that I cannot do for you.
