In a time of shortages of toilet paper and hand sanitizer for my janitorial clients, I'm pretty well stocked up personally. Being perhaps a bit paranoid, I keep a stash of Spam on hand, and jugs of water - and lots of books. My only issue, I realized several days ago, was extra dog food. PetSmart had plenty, so I now do as well.
But, needing yogurt and blueberries for breakfast, and cabbage for some coleslaw, I ventured to my neighborhood grocery, expecting to see devastation. In fact, most everything was well stocked. Empty shelves in the paper products area, and frozen vegetables and TV dinners were skimpy, but nothing else. Produce section was full. Everything but cabbage. No regular cabbage, no organic, none. Couldn't figure it out. Had the National Enquirer put out an article that cabbage kills the coronavirus?
I enquired of the check-out lady. "Oh, that's because of yesterday...no, the day before." I'm still clueless. "Saint Patrick's Day - corned beef and cabbage." Should have remembered. My sing-along group did a Saint Patrick's sing-along the previous weekend. The photo is the event's reception committee, to hose us down on arrival. Thought the green top hat was a nice touch.
